Former Ohio State quarterback Mike Shazier, former Texas A&M QB Justin Thomas and former Auburn QB Josh Jacobs to sign with UCLA

LOS ANGELES (AP) Former Ohio University quarterback Mike Shanahan and former Texas-A&M quarterback Justin Thomas have signed on with UCLA as defensive backs, sources confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

They join five other defensive backs with offers from the Bruins, including former USC and Georgia safety/cornerback Jordan Kovacs and former Michigan safety Jarrad Davis.

Shanahan was the No. 1 pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL draft, but he played just one season with the program.

He was released by Arizona after one season and signed with Texas A & M in 2019.

He then transferred to Texas and had two seasons as the starting quarterback for the Aggies before the program parted ways with him in 2019 and he returned to Ohio in 2019 as the backup to Jake Rudock.

He was the starter at Texas A.&M for the past two seasons before the Longhorns released him after the 2017 season.

He also played defensive back at the University of Southern California before the Bruins hired former defensive coordinator Joe Moglia as their head coach in 2018.

He played two seasons at USC, starting one game and starting the other.

Thomas is a defensive end from Texas who was a three-year starter for the Longhorn secondary and was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2018 and earned the Pac-12 Conference’s defensive player of the year.

He has appeared in 37 games over three seasons at Texas and is considered a potential starter for Texas in 2019, if it is allowed to transfer.

Jacobs played at Texas Tech from 2019-20 and is expected to play in 2018 at a pro day.
