Tulane football rankings: Tulane wins SEC, gets a top-25 finish

Tulane (11-3, 5-3) clinched a top 25 finish with a 35-3 win over Auburn on Saturday, securing its third straight SEC regular-season title.

The Tigers (12-2, 4-1) beat Arkansas, Louisiana-Monroe, South Carolina, Texas A&M and LSU.

The win over South Carolina marked Tulane’s first in the SEC title game since winning the SEC championship game in 2005.

It was the ninth straight SEC title and first in conference history for Tulane.

Tulane finished fourth in the final AP poll (27-30) and fifth in the conference’s preseason poll (23-24).

Tulanes quarterback Carson Wentz completed 20-of-28 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns.

The Mustangs have been ranked No. 2 in the preseason AP poll for the last four weeks and have a perfect 9-0 mark in the polls.

The Mustangs are coming off a victory over Auburn that saw them clinch the SEC West title.

Wentz finished the game on 25-of, 227 passing for 441 yards and four touchdowns, including a 47-yarder to quarterback Ryan Finley with 8:28 left in the third quarter.TULANES FIRST SEC CHAMPIONSHIPThe Mustids have never won a SEC championship, and were a wildcard team to get into the championship game.

But they won it on the road against Arkansas, who lost for the first time since 2009.

Tulsa won the SEC East, while Auburn fell to Alabama.

Tulsa went 4-0 in the East, defeating South Carolina in Atlanta.
