Why are Arizona’s top two running backs ranked ahead of Alabama’s?

The Arizona Cardinals’ top two runners, Todd Gurley and Devonta Freeman, are both among the NFL’s top quarterbacks and running backs, according to a ranking released Monday by NFL.com.

Gurley and Freeman were the first pair to be named to the All-Decade team since 1992, and they are also the only two players in NFL history to be selected to the Pro Bowl.

Freeman, the NFL Network’s Walter Football Player of the Year, was named MVP of the NFC West after leading the Dallas Cowboys to their first NFC West title since 2000.

Freemen led the league in rushing with 1,091 yards on 173 carries (4.2 per carry) in 2016.

He also rushed for 1,848 yards on 1,062 carries (5.3 per carry).

Freeman also led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns with 12,829 yards on 1527 carries (7.3 yards per carry), while Gurley had 16 touchdowns on 38 carries (3.9 yards per attempt) for 1.9 per carry.

Freman led the NFC in rushing in both 2016 and 2017, and finished the season as the league’s top rusher with 2,086 yards on 547 carries (8.3 a touch) and 16 touchdowns.

Gurley finished the year with 2.4 yards per rush.

Freemans career has been derailed by injury, but Freeman had a breakout season last season, rushing for 2,621 yards on 754 carries (11.9 a touch).

He also had five 100-yard rushing games, including a team-high eight against the New Orleans Saints.

Freeman also has 1,892 receiving yards on 61 catches (8 per catch) for 858 yards and two touchdowns.
