Texan a&m football star on death row over rape case

A former Texas football star who was convicted of rape last year is on death rows in Texas for the second time.

Thomas Mair was sentenced to death in August, but an appeals court overturned that sentence in April.

A judge later ordered the state to retry Mair for the rape charge, but a federal judge has ruled against retrying him.

Mair is scheduled to be executed on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

CST.

The state is appealing that ruling.

The former player was arrested in August 2016 and accused of raping a woman who was his girlfriend.

Mair has been in jail since that time.

He was sentenced in August to life in prison for the first rape conviction.

He was originally sentenced to 40 years for the conviction, but the sentence was reduced to 35 years and then reduced again to 20 years.
