Why the AFL will be watching the finals games in 2019-20

Posted by ESPN Crikey on Wednesday, February 08, 2020 10:29:52The AFL is looking at the best-on-ground football in 2019, with the finals series in the books, and is in discussions with the AFL to extend the finals to a third year.

It is understood the AFL is in talks with both the AFL and the AFL Players’ Association about the possibility of the series being extended to 2021.

The AFL has been in discussions about extending the finals from 2020 to 2021, and a deal is in place with both parties, with a decision expected to be announced at the end of the year.

“We’re in discussions to extend [the finals],” a source said.

“The discussions are at an early stage.

We haven’t signed any agreement yet, so the discussions are in early stages.

It’s a negotiation between the two sides.”

The AFL will look to secure a long-term deal with the players in order to maintain a strong presence in the game, which has seen a huge rise in popularity.

However, the AFL would also like to continue to be a strong advocate for the game in the community.

“This is the AFL’s role in sport, but we’re also very passionate about what we do,” a source told the Herald Sun.

“That’s why we’re going to continue advocating for the sport as it continues to grow.”

The first two rounds of the season are scheduled for March 4-5 and March 11-12, while the finals will take place at the MCG between March 14-16.
