How the Illinois football team got back to the NCAA tournament

After a disappointing first round finish at the College Football Playoff, the Illini got the opportunity to advance to the NIT semifinals in their home state.

Here are five things you need to know about Illinois football, and their chances of winning the NHE.

1.

The Big Ten’s top seeds won’t be playing any games in the semifinals.

That means the Big Ten will be taking three top seeds into the tournament.

Illinois and Iowa State are the top two seeds, and the winner of the conference tournament will be seeded No. 3.

If Michigan State and Penn State advance to play the top three seeds, they will meet for the Big 12 title, which will be decided in the championship game.

But the winner will play the other four conference winners in the first round.

2.

Illinois’ best player is in the NLL.

If there’s one player in the Illinis future who can win the Big Dance, it’s wide receiver Chris Harper-Boling, who has been named to the conference’s All-Big Ten second team for the past three seasons.

Harper-Phelps was a consensus first-team All-American in 2015, and has been a three-time Big Ten first-teamer.

3/5/16: The Big 12’s best player was also a NLL player.

Kansas State guard Dwayne Bacon was the Big XII Player of the Year, and led the Jayhawks to the Final Four last season.

4.

Michigan State’s leading scorer is the No. 2 ranked player in college basketball.

Wisconsin forward Kaleb Tarczewski is the nation’s No. 1 overall player in 2019, and is averaging 15.7 points per game.

5.

Wisconsin will play three top-three seeds in the tournament, and two of them will play in the second round.

The Huskies will play Kansas and Michigan State in the Round of 64, and Kansas and Wisconsin will face Oklahoma and Louisville in the Sweet 16.

Wisconsin’s Sweet 16 opponent will be Kansas.

6.

Nebraska will face a top-five opponent in the third round.

That will be Florida State, which beat Kentucky in the title game last season, and lost to Syracuse in the Elite Eight.

The Spartans also lost to North Carolina State.

7.

Illinois will face two top-10 teams in the fourth round.

Florida State and Kansas State will play one each in the round of 64.

The Illini are currently the No 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and will meet No. 4 Wisconsin in the final.

8.

Illinois is a perfect 3-0 against top-seeded teams in their conference.

Illinois has won its past five games against a top 20 team, and also beat top-ranked opponents by double digits.

9.

Illinois won a championship last season against Michigan State, and should be able to do the same this season.

The Buckeyes will be playing for the conference championship in the next couple of weeks, and if Illinois wins, it will be the first Big Ten championship since 2008.

10.

Iowa State coach John Groce is a big reason why the Hawkeyes are undefeated.

The Hawkeyes had to play Illinois twice in the regular season because of the NCAA’s rules that limit teams from playing a higher seed for the second consecutive year.

In 2013, Illinois was the No, 7 seed in Iowa’s pool, and was upset by Michigan State.

11.

Wisconsin was one of the best teams in college hoops last season and should have a better chance at winning this season than Illinois.

Wisconsin won its last two games against top teams by double-digits.

12.

Iowa is coming off its third NCAA tournament appearance in four years, and there’s a good chance that coach Kirk Herbstreit’s team will be in the Final 4 this season, too.

13.

Illinois was ranked No. 15 nationally in 2019.

Iowa will face the No 10 seed in a rematch of the Big 10 Championship, and Iowa will play Minnesota, which lost to Wisconsin in its championship game last year.

14.

Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan will have a tough time coaching his own team in the Big Tourney, especially after losing to Indiana in the conference title game.

15.

Indiana lost to Purdue last season in the Midwest Regional, but it will look to rebound from that loss to win the NCAA championship for the fourth time in the past five years.

The Hoosiers will face Iowa State in a Sweet 16 rematch.

16.

Indiana is a solid No. 5 seed in 2019 and has won at least two of its past three games against teams with better records than Wisconsin.

17.

Wisconsin lost to Kentucky in a national semifinal game last summer.

This is a huge game for the Badgers, who will play No. 6 Kansas in the national semifinals.

18.

Kansas will be looking for a big win in the state of Missouri to advance, but Wisconsin will have to play an up-tempo offense to make it to the Sweet Sixteen. 19.
